The Peak District is full of amazing places to visit, walking routes, and cosy country pubs. With a third of Sheffield lying within the Peak District and it only takes 30 minutes to get to, it’s no wonder that we were named the Greenest City in 2021.

Ladybower Reservoir
Ladybower Reservoir is a large Y-shaped reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley, and is incredibly impressive and beautiful. You don’t have to walk far to appreciate it proper as you can stroll across the bridge and take in the views. But, there are several walking trails if you are wanting to have a proper look round.

Hathersage
Hathersage is famous for local literary links as it inspired author Charlotte Bronte when writing her novel Jane Eyre. Full of walking route, shops, and places to eat, Hathersage also has one of the UK’s few outdoor swimming pools, which provides views of Stanage Edge.
Padley George
A dream-like sport, with flowing streams, and waterfalls in a woodland setting, Padley George is located near the Longshaw Estate. It is surrounded by great walks and makes an excellent spot for picnics and paddling.b
Castleton
Home to a number of caverns, including Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern and Blue John Cavern, all in which you can visit, Castleton is a small village offering quaint independent shops and country pubs.
Mam Tor
Mam Tor, meaning ‘Mother Hill’, is a 517 metre high hill which is close by to Hope and Castleton. It is one of the most famous walks in the Peak District and offers stunning views from the high peak.

Bakewell
The birthplace of the famous Bakewell Tart, the village of Bakewell is picturesque and a lovely place to visit to have a mooch around the shops and have a picnic or pub lunch.
Monsal Head Viaduct
If you’re staying or visiting Bakewell, take a trip to the Monsal Head Viaduct where you can explore the entire trail, cross the old railway and enjoy the fantastic viewpoint.
Matlock & Matlock Bath
A visit to these two neighbouring towns should be on your Peak District things to do list!
Matlock’s central location, scenic surroundings and public transport links make it a popular base for exploring. And, a seaside town without the sea, Matlock Bath boasts two fantastic attractions, Gulliver’s Kingdom Theme Park and The Heights of Abraham.
Robin Hood’s Stride
The legend has it that Robin Hood himself jumped from one peak to another, hence the name Robin Hood’s Stride. You can climb the rocks to get to the top to take in the breathtaking views of the Peak District.

Thor’s Cave
Outside the village of Wetton, Thor’s Cave is a natural cavern which has a huge arched entrance offering breathtaking views of the valley.
